About the exhibition:

Currently under development, Repertoires of Contention will present the work of artists Tony Garifalakis (Australia) and Joaquin Segura (Mexico). Despite working in seemingly different contexts, there are many parallels and strong ties between their practices. Both artists have a cogent interest in socio-political structures of power and share an innate stance of dissidence; a desire to challenge any established doctrine, policy, or institution.

Spanning video, installation, intervention and photographic works, the exhibition traces the ongoing relationship between the artists, parting from pieces from the year 2008 – year in which the artists met and became friends during a residency in New York – and culminating with an ambitious, collaborative new work developed specifically for the exhibition. This will mark the first collaboration between Garifalakis and Segura.
